Numbers Speak For Themselves
Wellenstein & Sons isn’t just a company name; it’s our family’s promise. When we take on a job, we bring generations of dedication, skill, and pride with us. Because for us, every job is personal.
The Early Years
Wally Wellenstein joined his family’s business, Wellenstein & Sons at the age of 28. At this time, he was working as a mason in northern Wisconsin for his uncle. Founded on March 26, 1953, Wellenstein & Sons has remained a proud family-run business for four generations. Wally began his career at the company as a carpenter and quickly advanced, taking on roles as a foreman and expeditor before purchasing the business from his father in 1962.
Under Wally’s leadership, the company grew by specializing as both a general and subcontractor for projects of all sizes. He prioritized building strong client relationships, a philosophy that became a core value of Wellenstein & Sons. Today, this commitment to clients continues through the work of his sons and grandson, ensuring the Wellenstein legacy thrives.
The Next Generation
Rick Wellenstein spent many years working in both field and office roles before purchasing Wellenstein & Sons from his father in 1997. Having grown up in the family business, Rick brought a deep understanding of the company’s operations and a strong commitment to its values.
As owner and President for more than 25 years, Rick guided the company through steady growth while overseeing carpentry work at dozens of schools, hospitals, corporate offices, and apartment buildings. His leadership also contributed to the construction of some of southern Wisconsin’s most recognizable landmarks, including American Family Field, Camp Randall Stadium, and Park Lafayette Towers.
Rick’s work ethic and steady leadership helped shape Wellenstein & Sons into the company it is today, enabling it to take on some of the region’s largest and most complex carpentry projects. In 2023, after decades of dedicated service, Rick passed the business on to the next generation when he sold the company to his son, Nick Wellenstein.
